How acupuncture helps women get pregnant

Can acupuncture help you get pregnant? In this short animated video, I explain how acupuncture and Chinese herbs support female fertility — from regulating hormones and improving egg quality to supporting IVF cycles and reducing the risk of miscarriage.

Key points from the video

In traditional Chinese medicine, fertility depends on the strength of kidney qi and the smooth flow of blood to the uterus and reproductive organs. Acupuncture works by regulating this flow, rebalancing the hormonal system and supporting the body's own capacity to conceive. Modern research has confirmed that acupuncture influences the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis — the brain's central hormonal control system — which governs ovulation, cycle regulation and the production of oestrogen, progesterone and FSH.

Acupuncture is particularly effective for women with PCOS, irregular cycles, endometriosis, low AMH, thin endometrial lining and a history of miscarriage. It is also used alongside IVF to improve implantation rates and reduce the physical and emotional stress of treatment.

Chinese herbal medicine is often used alongside acupuncture for fertility. Where acupuncture regulates the flow of qi and blood, herbs are able to nourish and replenish what the body lacks — building blood, strengthening kidney essence and warming the uterus in ways that needles alone cannot always achieve. Together, they offer a comprehensive approach to restoring and optimising reproductive health.
