1. About
Dr (TCM) Attilio D'Alberto provides expert acupuncture in Wokingham, Berkshire, treating a wide range of health conditions with over 25 years of clinical experience. Whether you are dealing with pain, fertility challenges, stress, or a long-term health condition, treatment is tailored to your individual needs using traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).
2. How acupuncture works
Acupuncture works by regulating the body's flow of energy and bodily fluids — including blood, yin and yang — to restore balance and promote natural healing.
Acupuncture points are located across the whole body, from head to toe, each connected to others by pathways called meridians. By stimulating specific points with ultra-fine acupuncture needles, the treatment elicits a healing response within the body.
Scientific evidence suggests acupuncture works by regulating neuromodulation — including vagus nerve stimulation — and has been shown to reduce inflammation, activate the body's natural pain-relief systems, and stimulate the immune system.

4. Is acupuncture painful?
Generally, no — acupuncture is not painful. The needles used are extremely fine, comparable in width to a human hair. To put it in perspective, 20 acupuncture needles can fit inside a single syringe needle.
Some people feel the needle as it is inserted, though this is more of a brief awareness than any real discomfort. The needle is placed very quickly. Once in position, you may notice a mild dull ache or a gentle tingling sensation — both are normal signs that the point has been activated. Many people feel nothing at all and find the experience deeply relaxing.
